Flora of the Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch, Northeastern Santa Cruz County, Arizona
The Appleton-Whittelll Research Ranch occupies 3160 ha southeast of Elgiin in northeastern Santa Cruz County (31 ° 35 N, 110° 30' W). A cooperative partnership operated by the National Audubon Society, the Research Ranch includes private land as well as lands occupied by the Coronado National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management. The Research Ranch was established in 1967 when the Appleton family removed cattle from their property, the Elgin Hereford Ranch, with the goal of creating an environmental preserve.
