The Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management strives to achieve the ultimate goal of zero harm to people and
the environment with zero tolerance for human fatality.

The International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), today announced that they will co-convene an independent review that will establish an international standard on tailings storage facilities.

The International Council on Mining & Metals (ICMM) today announced its governing Council of 27 member CEOs will establish an independent panel of experts to develop an international standard for tailings facilities for its member companies.

Council is strongly supportive of the proposed actions in response to Brumadinho

This position statement sets out ICMM members’ approach to the governance of tailings storage facilities (TSFs) for the mining and metals industry to minimize the risk of catastrophic failure of tailings facilities.
