Rio Tinto is evaluating the Resolution Copper deposit located in Arizona. The main interest for this project is copper, with a secondary value in molybdenum. The principle objectives of this project were to:

Using a database of 655 recordings from 58 earthquakes, empirical response spectral attenuation relations are derived for the average horizontal and vertical component for shallow earthquakes in active tectonic regions. A new feature in this model is the inclusion of a factor to distinguish between ground motions on the hanging wall and footwall of dipping faults.

The maximum background earthquake (MBE) is the largest earthquake not associated with significant primary surface rupture. The MBE is estimated for the Basin and Range province considering 22 earthquakes from the province and a simple physical model of a circular rupture in the seismogenic zone.

This paper describes the development and application of a new method for generation of realistic synthetic earthquake time histories compatible with multiple-damping design spectra. The effectiveness of this new method is demonstrated by applying it to adjust actual earthquake time histories to match the design spectra while minimizing perturbations on their characteristics. The paper also demonstrates that seismic responses of structures based on such spectrum-compatible realistic time histories are consistent with those obtained from analyses using an ensemble of time histories.

The Colorado Plateau is a major tectonic and physiographic province in the southwestern United States which has been relatively stable during the Phanerozoic, but has been epeirogenically uplifted about 2 km in the Cenozoic.

Historical records indicate that several meters of lateral slip along the San Andreas fault accompanied the great 1857 earthquake in central and southern California. These records, together with dendrochronological evidence, suggest that the rupture occurred along 360 to 400+ km of the fault, including several tens of kilometers of the currently creeping reach in central California.

Because of increased public interest and concern about expected losses from future earthquakes in California, the National Earthquake Prediction Evaluation Council recommended that the probability of occurrence of large (magnitude 7 or greater) earthquakes in California be evaluated. In response to this recommendation, the U.S. Geological Survey formed the Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities.

Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) for approximately 148 acres referred to as the Tangle Creek parcel.

Data summarized in this report include digital photographs taken between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017. During this survey period, motion-sensitive cameras were deployed at twelve total locations in the vicinity of the Project.

This Modeling Report includes a description of the methods and datasets used in the air quality modeling analyses to estimate the Resolution Project’s air quality impacts relative to the applicable Ambient Air Quality Standards (AAQS) for criteria pollutants and to Air Quality Related Values (AQRV) in the near-field domain and in several Class I Wilderness Areas in the far-field domain.
