The U.S. Forest Service, Tonto National Forest (Forest Service) applied to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for the Secretary of the Interior to withdraw 276 acres of National Forest System (NFS) lands located within the Tonto National Forest from location and entry under the General Mining Act of 1872, as amended (30 United States Code 22–54) (U.S. mining laws) for a 20-year term, subject to valid existing rights. The purpose of the withdrawal requested is to protect the lands pending conveyance to the Town of Superior (Town), Pinal County, Arizona as directed by Congress.
