This is a summary of personal observations and impressions of the continued presence or absence of the herpetofauna which have been previously reported at the Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch. A total of fifty-two amphibian and reptile species have been reported within the Research Ranch boundaries. The continued existence of several species may be in doubt.
Good visibility is important to the enjoyment of national parks and scenic areas. Across the country, regional haze has decreased the visual range from 140 miles to 35-90 miles in the West, and from 90 miles to 15 -25 miles in the East. Regional haze is air pollution that is transported long distances, causing reduced visibility in national parks and wilderness areas.

Today, with increasing demand for water resources and uncertainty about the amount and quality of supply, the competition for water resources is being felt across all sectors of society. Awareness of the ways water-related risks can disrupt business has also increased. Although the cost and price of water varies tremendously across the United States, corporations are increasingly assessing and reporting their water use and improving water process efficiency. In addition, companies are seeking economic and technological innovations.
