We examined the responses of bats to aggregations of insects in a semiarid habitat where we suspected that foraging bats might search for food over a large area to avail themselves of patchily distributed insects. We also tested the responses of bats to recorded bat foraging sounds and to artificial sounds simulating the feeding buzzes of hunting bats.
