Horseshoe and Bartlett Dams are located In the Transition Zone of central Arizona. Within this province, faults with evidence of Quaternary activity are widely scattered, and selsmiclty Is low In comparison to other parts of the western United States.

We conducted a paleoseismic study on the San Andreas fault (SAF) southeast of Cholame, California, to investigate the record of earthquakes along an 80-km paleoseismic data gap between Parkfield and the Carrizo Plain.

A paleoseismic study conducted along the Cholame segment of the San Andreas fault provides evidence for three earthquakes and the amount of lateral offset for the most recent event (1857 Fort Tejon earthquake).

An existing model of desert pavement formation suggests desert pavement clasts rise vertically on an accreting eolian mantle and the underlying vesicular horizon coevolves with pavement formation. Results presented here support this model and provide a mechanism whereby eolian material is transported from the ground surface to ped interiors, thereby increasing the thickness of the vesicular horizon help identify the processes of underlying desert pavements.
